We spent yesterday in Harrisburg with PA Literacy Coalition for their 2026 PA Literacy Summit & Day of Action.
The PA Literacy Coalition ran a great Harrisburg advocacy day. They kept a packed schedule moving, juggling meetings, speaking engagements, and planning with enthusiasm.
Advocacy and Outreach to Legislators in Harrisburg
The day brought together advocates, legislators, educators, storytellers, and individuals from across Pennsylvania and the country. Everyone was genuinely excited about improving literacy in the commonwealth through evidence-based instruction.
Strong Earned Media and Social Media Results
We emerged from the advocacy day with significant attention and momentum. There were over 40 media hits and counting across TV and radio. Additionally, we saw a 3 to 5x increase in impressions across social media platforms.

The Importance of Advocacy in Literacy
Advocacy plays a crucial role in promoting literacy. It brings together diverse voices to push for change. When we advocate for literacy, we are not just promoting reading and writing. We are advocating for the future of our communities.
Engaging with Stakeholders
Engaging with stakeholders is essential. This includes educators, parents, and community leaders. Each group has a unique perspective. Their input can shape effective literacy programs. By working together, we can create a comprehensive approach to literacy.
Evidence-Based Instruction
Evidence-based instruction is vital for effective literacy programs. It ensures that teaching methods are backed by research. This approach leads to better outcomes for students. We must advocate for policies that support evidence-based practices in our schools.
Building Momentum
Building momentum is key to sustaining advocacy efforts. After events like the PA Literacy Summit, it is important to keep the conversation going. We can do this through social media, community meetings, and ongoing outreach.
Measuring Success
Measuring success is crucial for any advocacy campaign. We need to track media coverage, social media engagement, and legislative outcomes. This data helps us understand what works and what needs improvement.
The Role of Partnerships
Partnerships amplify our efforts. Collaborating with other organizations can enhance our reach. Together, we can share resources, knowledge, and strategies. This collaboration strengthens our advocacy efforts.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our day in Harrisburg was a success. The PA Literacy Coalition's advocacy day highlighted the importance of collaboration and evidence-based instruction. As we move forward, let’s continue to advocate for literacy. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.
By focusing on these key areas, we can ensure that literacy remains a priority. Our collective efforts will lead to a brighter future for all.
