Three Interesting Things in Pennsylvania (January 14)

Writer's picture: Mark NicastreMark Nicastre

Every day (ok, most days), we'll try to highlight three interesting things in Pennsylvania that meet at the intersection of policy, politics, news, and government.

  1. Last summer, Pennsylvania lawmakers passed a budget that acknowledged a roughly $4.5 billion “adequacy gap” to properly fund the commonwealth’s poorest schools, and pledged to fill it using state dollars. (SpotlightPA)

  2. Pennsylvania is home to an estimated 155,000 undocumented migrants, according to the American Immigration Council. And around 30,000 of them may work in the state’s agricultural sector, according to estimates from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. (Penn Capital-Star)

  3. The new year carries high stakes around the Commonwealth for policing and criminal justice, as 18 counties will elect a District Attorney while 32 will also conduct elections for Sheriff. (PoliticsPA)
